The Beacon is a project that has a vision to maintain a presence and to support a renewed outward looking focus within the community of Killisick and Arnold.
The project objectives are:
We want to serve the local community of Killisick and Arnold through the renewal and provision of a community venue that can provide a focal point for a variety of activities and services. This may be in a shared way through supporting the aims of the local authority (Gedling Borough Council) or through church based initiatives focusing on children and families, debt advice, training and care for the elderly.
The vision is not a community centre, but rather a centre for the community where a variety of targeted activities can be facilitated to inspire change and cohesion within the locality. The building will remain an active place of worship, but will also seek to be radically different in terms of engagement with local people, thereby building connection and trust.
We introduced Messy Church at The Beacon a year ago.
What is Messy church?
Messy church is a church not a craft club (Christ-centred)
Messy church is for adults and children to enjoy together (All ages)
Messy church reflects a God of joy who wants his people to have life in all it's fullness (Celebration)
This session will take place on the last Thursday of every month (except school holidays).
The next Messy Church will be on Thursday 27 September starting at 3.30pm.
The theme will be thankfulness.
The Beacon has worked closely with staff and pupils from our 2 local primary schools since September 2015. These schools are:-
We provide a range from interactions from input with assemblies and RE in class time through to facilitating music sessions for all age groups.
We also held a multi event competition for these schools in July 2018 titled
'The Beacon Olympics'.
We are currently exploring how we can provide further support with English and Maths.
